Omokri Defends Tinubu's Opposition to FBI Records Release

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri defended President Bola Tinubu's stance against the public release of his records held by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Omokri stated that the presence of Tinubu's name in FBI records does not imply a criminal record, as the FBI maintains extensive non-criminal files.

He emphasized that the FBI conducts mandatory background screenings for visa applicants, which may result in numerous benign records. Omokri asserted that Tinubu has no criminal record in the United States or Nigeria and referenced a correspondence from February 2003 between the US Embassy and Nigeria's then Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun, which reportedly cleared Tinubu of any criminal wrongdoing.

He also mentioned his findings during a visit to Chicago in 2022, confirming the absence of any criminal records against Tinubu.
