Tinubu Challenges Release of FBI Records, Omokri Explains

Reno Omokri, the Ambassador-designate of Nigeria to Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is challenging the release of records held by the FBI because they may contain sensitive, non-criminal personal information. Omokri argued that such records, which could include biometric and financial data, should not be made public to political opponents.

He responded to reports claiming the FBI had released Tinubu's criminal records to a US judge, describing these claims as misleading. Omokri referenced a February 2003 correspondence between Tafa Balogun, then Inspector General of Police, and the US Embassy, which cleared Tinubu of any criminal records.

He also mentioned his own investigation in Chicago, Illinois, from September 18 to 20, 2022, which led him to conclude that allegations of Tinubu having a criminal record were unfounded. Omokri emphasized that FBI databases contain extensive non-criminal information generated through routine checks.
