Police Confirm Officers Remain in Osun After Election

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that officers deployed for the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election have not been withdrawn. CSP Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, clarified that the officers are still in Osun as part of a post-election deployment to address emerging security threats and ensure a smooth transition to normal policing.

The police denied allegations that the officers were operating under harsh conditions, lacking adequate food and basic welfare provisions. Iniedu emphasized that the duration of their stay would be determined by operational and security needs.

He rejected claims of abandonment or inadequate welfare, stating that all deployed officers have received their approved entitlements and that command structures are responsible for their welfare. The Nigeria Police Force urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims and reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its personnel.
