Wike Denies Lobbying for APC Campaign DG Position

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has publicly denied claims that he is lobbying for the position of Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in anticipation of the 2027 elections. In a statement released on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike characterized the reports as false.

He stated that he has not engaged in discussions regarding leadership or membership of the campaign council. Currently outside Nigeria, Wike mentioned he is taking time to rest after over 30 days of project commissioning and inspections.

He emphasized that upon his return, his focus will be on fulfilling his mandate in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to enhance the President's electoral prospects in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Wike asserted that he does not require a formal position within the campaign council to contribute to the President's success.
