Kingibe Accuses Wike of Unauthorized Loan Borrowing

Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), alleged during an interview on Channels Television that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT, has taken loans without the approval of the National Assembly. Kingibe referenced records from the Debt Management Office (DMO) showing that loans had been acquired for the FCT between August 2023 and March 2026.

She emphasized that Wike had not appeared before the Senate to seek approval for these borrowings, stating, “I have never seen Wike come to the National Assembly, come before the Senate, to ask for approval for anything.” Kingibe expressed her concerns about the oversight responsibilities of the Senate and mentioned that she had brought the issue of Wike’s borrowing to the attention of the Senate leadership, highlighting the need for proper approval processes in financial matters concerning the FCT.
