Wike Requests Federal Support for Millennium Tower Project

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCTA), announced on Thursday that he is seeking federal backing for the Millennium Tower project during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja. The contractor has estimated that completing the iconic structure will require between ₦300 billion and ₦400 billion.

Wike expressed concern that allocating such a significant amount from the FCTA’s statutory budget could compromise other critical infrastructure projects within the Federal Capital Territory. He emphasized the Millennium Tower, which was awarded during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as a national monument with considerable tourism and cultural value, advocating for its classification as a Federal Government project.

Wike has initiated discussions with President Bola Tinubu regarding the possibility of the Federal Government taking over the project to ensure its completion. The Millennium Tower was designed to be a landmark on the Abuja skyline, intended to house a cultural center, museum, and other tourism facilities, but it has remained incomplete for several years.
