Women Engineers Urged to Lead Practical Solutions in Nigeria

At the inauguration of the third executive committee of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Umuahia chapter in Abia State, Mr. Chinyer Igwegb emphasized the need for women engineers to move beyond advocacy and become leaders in providing practical solutions to engineering challenges.

Newly inaugurated chairman Mr. Chibuogwu Okoro pledged to build the organization and focus on five strategic priorities: expanding membership, continuous professional development, increasing STEM advocacy for girls, and fostering stronger partnerships with government and private sector organizations.

The event featured distinguished speakers, including Dr. Felicia Nnenna Agubata and Professor Mabel Onwuka, who challenged the new committee to prioritize mentorship and technical upskilling.

They highlighted the importance of addressing pressing issues such as climate change, renewable energy, food security, and infrastructure development, asserting that women engineers should not only adapt to change but lead it.
