Women Protest in Cross River Over Murder of Luci Morshi

On Monday, hundreds of women from Nwang Ekpugrinya in Ogoja Local Government Area protested against the killing of 26-year-old Luci Morshi. The women marched through the streets and later gathered at the Ogoja Division Police Station, demanding the release of Malim Ejo, 35, who is currently in police custody.

The incident occurred on Saturday when Morshi was allegedly attacked near a stream close to her farm in Nwang village, Ekajuk, leading to her death. ASP Sundai Eitokpah, the police spokesman for Cross River, confirmed the incident and stated that police promptly visited the scene upon receiving the report, apprehending the suspect to prevent mob action from angry youths.

Morshi's remains have not yet been deposited at the general hospital mortuary in Ogoja, as arrangements for the case transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation are ongoing. Security personnel, including soldiers, have been deployed to the area to restore calm following the escalating tensions from the protest.
