Peter Obi Praises Cape Verde's World Cup Success

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2027 elections, congratulated Cape Verde for its remarkable performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He noted that Cape Verde's success demonstrates that effective planning and leadership are more crucial than population size.

Obi highlighted that despite Cape Verde's small landmass of 4,033 square kilometers and a population of approximately 550,000, it managed to reach the knockout stage of the tournament, outperforming Nigeria, which has a landmass of 923,768 square kilometers and a population of around 230 million. He attributed Nigeria's failure to qualify for the World Cup to poor leadership and weak institutions, stressing that success in football and beyond requires a functional system rather than demographic advantages.

Obi's remarks serve as a call for Nigeria to prioritize good leadership and institutional reforms to foster success on a global scale.
