SWIS Africa Launches Initiative to Empower Women in STEM
Shaping African Women in STEM (SWIS Africa), a youth-led non-profit organization, has initiated a year-long digital innovation and mentorship program called SWIS Hub to address the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in Nigeria. Executive Director Samuel Ogunsola announced that the initiative will commence with a Pop-Up Innovation Lab in Lagos on August 7 and 8, 2026.

Funded by the African Union-European Union Youth Action Lab Innovation Grant, SWIS Africa received between €30,000 and €40,000 for this project.
The SWIS Hub will feature a digital platform with expert videos, scholarship databases, and networking opportunities. Additionally, four innovation labs will be held across Nigeria, focusing on various STEM topics, and a six-month media fellowship will train 20 young women in science communication.
