Zamfara Local Government Chair Freed After Two Months

Abdullahi, the chair of a local government in Zamfara, was abducted from his residence in Bungudu town in July 2026. After two months in captivity, he and four other victims escaped in the early hours of Thursday, September 24, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by the Joint Task Force North West targeting a suspected terrorists’ location in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The operation was confirmed by a statement from Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer of the task force. Upon their escape, the victims were received by troops who provided them with security cover and subsequently evacuated them to a military medical facility for treatment and evaluation.

One victim has already been reunited with his family, while arrangements are being made for the others. The Theatre Command praised the victims' resilience and the troops' professionalism, emphasizing their commitment to securing the safe return of others still missing.
