Shinkafi Demands Transparency on Zamfara Gold Purchases

Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a former governorship aspirant in Zamfara State, has called on the current governor, Dauda Lawal, to publish the handover notes related to gold purchases made by former Governor Bello Matawalle. Shinkafi emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, stating that failure to publish the documents within 14 days would compel him to report the matter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

He expressed concern over the lack of information regarding Matawalle's administration's gold reserve initiative, which was presented to President Muhammadu Buhari on October 24, 2020, involving 31 kilograms of gold valued at approximately five billion naira. Shinkafi also referenced the suspension of mining activities in Zamfara State due to security issues and urged the federal government to investigate the gold transactions conducted during Matawalle's tenure.
