Zulum Settles N5.81bn Gratuity Backlog for Workers

On a Friday in Maiduguri, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State presented cheques totaling N5.81 billion to address the backlog of gratuity payments for retirees and deceased civil servants. This initiative is part of the administration's commitment to improving the welfare of workers and their families.

The first cheque, amounting to N2,992,301,964.95, settled outstanding gratuities owed to families of deceased civil servants, while the second cheque of N2,822,528,306.99 covered gratuities and pensions due as of December 2022. Zulum emphasized the importance of these payments in alleviating the hardships faced by pension families and reaffirmed his administration's dedication to addressing welfare challenges.

The governor also acknowledged the constraints faced by local government systems and assured that his administration would engage with union leadership to find practical solutions. The ceremony was attended by various officials, including members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, who expressed appreciation for the payments.
