Zulum Allocates N5.81bn for Borno Retirees' Gratuities

On a special occasion held at the Government House in Maiduguri, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum presented a cheque worth N5.81 billion to clear the backlog of gratuities owed to families of deceased civil servants. This payment is part of the administration's efforts to enhance the welfare of retirees and their families.

The total amount includes N2,992,301,964.95 for outstanding gratuities and N2,822,528,306.99 covering pension dues from December 2022. Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of fulfilling the government's promises to civil servants, stating that the administration is committed to addressing the challenges faced by local government employees.

He assured that further engagements with union leadership would take place to discuss welfare improvements. The gesture was commended by various labor leaders, including Lawan Umar Dalorima, who acknowledged the significant impact of the payments on the lives of pensioners and their families.
