Ten Arrested in Assault Case Leading to Teacher's Death

Ten suspects are currently in custody in connection with the death of Maryam Usman, a 30-year-old primary school teacher who was assaulted on June 18, 2026, in Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi State. The Kogi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three additional suspects involved in the incident.

According to police spokesperson SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, preliminary investigations revealed that Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, attacked Usman after she punished a pupil. The teacher sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko Ojo Hospital in Okpo for further medical attention, where she unfortunately passed away on June 25, 2026.

Following the incident, police detectives visited the scene and the deceased's residence to document necessary evidence. The body has been arranged for autopsy at the General Hospital in Ankpa, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
