Lagos Government Launches Health and Safety Program for 10,000 Drivers to Improve Road Safety

The Lagos State Government, led by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, initiates a health and safety program aimed at enhancing driver fitness and alertness to improve road safety and reduce accidents. The program targets 10,000 drivers, particularly truck and articulated vehicle operators, playing a crucial role in sustaining Lagos State's economy and logistics ecosystem.

Scheduled from Monday, February 9, to Thursday, February 12, 2026, the program will operate at select locations including Iyana Iba Park, Obalende Park, Lekki Free Trade Zone Park, Lilli Pond Bond Terminal, and Apapa. Beneficiaries will receive free eye screenings, medical consultations, correct lenses, and substance abuse awareness screenings to promote responsible driving and overall road safety.

The government emphasizes ensuring that every driver leaving seaports, depots, and motor parks across Lagos State is physically fit, mentally alert, and visually capable of navigating roads safely. Adekoya calls for the support of transport owner associations and unions to ensure the program's success through sensitization, mobilization, and facilitation of member participation.
