Fire Destroys Nine Shops in Ibadan, Oyo State

On Saturday, a fire incident at the Nigerian Railway shopping complex in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State razed nine locked-up shops, resulting in damages estimated at about N21 million. The fire started around 5 am and was reported to the Oyo State Fire Services Agency at 5:58 am by Taofeek.

Busari Olayemi, an affected trader, stated that the fire destroyed various goods, including window blinds, curtain fabrics, and industrial sewing machines. The firefighting crew, led by Chief Fire Superintendent Adesina, arrived promptly and initiated firefighting operations, calling for reinforcement when necessary.

The fire was successfully controlled and extinguished, preventing further spread to adjacent shops. No casualties were reported, and preliminary investigations suggested that an electrical surge ignited combustible materials within the shops.

Moroof Akinwande, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform, urged the public to remain vigilant regarding fire safety.
