12-Year-Old Dies After Alleged Bullying in Akwa Ibom School

Ufokobong Edwin Godwin, a 12-year-old junior secondary school student at a unity school in Ikot Ekpen, Akwa Ibom State, died following alleged bullying by senior students. The bullying reportedly began during the Easter break when he was assaulted by a senior student after refusing to share provisions.

The victim sustained neck injuries during the incident, which occurred during the examination period. After regaining consciousness, he returned to school but later complained of severe neck pain at home.

His father sought medical attention when the pain worsened, but medical personnel confirmed complications associated with a blood clot around the neck area. Jude Ezeogu, the principal of the school, described the death as unfortunate, and the school management is reviewing the incident.

Timfon John, from the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Office, verified the incident but did not provide further details. The family of the deceased is calling for a federal investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
