Osun Political Parties Reject IPAC Caretaker Committee

On Saturday, thirteen registered political parties in Osun State publicly rejected the appointment of a caretaker committee for the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC). Tosin Odeyemi, chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, condemned the appointment as a "joke taken too far." He highlighted the failure of the IPAC national body to conduct elections for vacant positions after the tenure of the last chairman, Victor Akande, who is also the state chairman of the Accord Party.

The scheduled election on March 14, 2026, was disrupted due to the absence of committee members, leading to a postponement without further communication from the IPAC National Secretariat. Odeyemi criticized the national body for undermining democratic values and acting without stakeholder involvement in forming the caretaker committee.

The parties that joined in the rejection include the Labour Party, African Democratic Congress, Nigeria Democratic Congress, Zenith Labour Party, Action Democratic Party, National Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, Allied Peoples Movement, Democratic Leadership Alliance, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Action Alliance, and African Action Congress. Odeyemi urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to disregard the caretaker committee.
