Osun Political Parties Unite for New IPAC Leadership

On August 15, 2023, fifteen political parties in Osun inaugurated a new leadership for the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to address a months-long deadlock ahead of the upcoming governorship election. The new 9-man executive is led by Dr.

Tosin Odeyemi of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and was affirmed during a meeting in Osogbo attended by 15 of the 22 registered parties in the state. The parties endorsing the new team include APC, LP, ADC, AAC, ZLP, NNPP, APGA, SDP, NDC, ADP, APM, AA, NRM, NDP, and DLA.

Dr. Odeyemi emphasized the urgency of the decision to prevent a vacuum in inter-party dialogue, recalling that IPAC was established by INEC in 2006 to promote credible elections.

He noted that the previous executive's tenure under Pastor Victor Akande had expired, and efforts to conduct fresh elections were stalled. The new executive aims to collaborate with INEC, OSIEC, security agencies, and civil society organizations to ensure a fair electoral process.
