MTN 2026 Plateau Championship to Feature 148 Schools

The MTN 2026 Plateau Championship is set to commence on March 28, 2026, at the New Jos Township Stadium, featuring 148 school teams and 1,300 athletes competing across 94 events in four age categories. This championship is part of MTN's initiative to promote youth development and grassroots sports in Nigeria.

Ib Etea, Chief Internal Auditor for MTN, emphasized the company's commitment to nurturing young talent in sports. The event will offer substantial prizes, including ₦2 million for first place, ₦1.5 million for second, ₦1 million for third, and ₦500,000 for fourth.

Since its inception in 2022, the MTN Championship has seen significant growth, with 20,000 athletes from 1,500 schools participating nationwide. Notably, 30 outstanding athletes have progressed to the MTN Championship Athlete Academy, achieving notable success in national competitions.

Plateau State officials, including Musa Ashom and Kachollom Gang, expressed confidence in the championship's ability to nurture champions while promoting education alongside sports.
