Kwankwaso: 30 Governors Don't Ensure 2027 Election Victory

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), warned political parties that having control over more than 30 governors does not ensure victory in the 2027 general elections. Speaking at an NDC town hall meeting in Rivers State on Thursday, Kwankwaso highlighted that the performance of individual governors would be crucial in determining electoral outcomes.

He noted that public dissatisfaction with certain administrations could hinder campaigning efforts for those governors. Kwankwaso referenced past elections where incumbency did not guarantee success, stating, “The sitting president lost the election.” He expressed concern over the performance of some northern governors, suggesting they may face resistance due to inadequate service delivery.

Furthermore, he criticized the lack of development despite increased government revenues, stating that Nigerians have not seen corresponding improvements in infrastructure and living conditions. Kwankwaso pointed out that insecurity in northern Nigeria exacerbates public anger ahead of the elections.
