Atiku Abubakar Dismisses Age Concerns Ahead of 2027 Election

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), addressed concerns regarding his age in an interview with BBC Hausa published on Friday. Critics have suggested that his age might hinder his ability to lead effectively if elected in the 2027 presidential election, as he would be "almost or nearly 80 years old" at that time.

In response, Atiku challenged the premise of the question by asking if he appeared to be approaching 80 years of age. He also referenced the age of President Bola Tinubu, questioning why voters supported someone perceived to be 90 years old.

When the interviewer corrected him about Tinubu's actual age, Atiku reiterated his point by asking, “Do I look to you like someone who has reached 80 years of age?” This exchange occurs as Atiku intensifies his campaign efforts and seeks to unite opposition politicians against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
