Fayemi Urges Catholics to Engage in Politics for 2027

Kayode Fayemi, the former Governor of Ekiti State, addressed the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBC) at Our Lady and St. Kizito Pastoral Centre in Ede, Osun State, urging Nigerian Catholics to actively participate in the electoral process. Speaking on the theme “Faith in Action: Empowering the Catholic Laity for Active Political Participation Ahead of the 2027 General Elections,” Fayemi warned that viewing politics as a “dirty game” could allow individuals with questionable values to gain power.

He emphasized that Christians have a duty to infuse their values into public life, promoting justice, accountability, and the common good. Fayemi encouraged Catholics to engage in various political activities beyond voting, such as contesting elections and monitoring electoral processes.

He advised voters to evaluate candidates based on their commitment to human dignity and societal welfare, rather than personal or ethnic biases. Additionally, he called for the Catholic Church to prioritize political formation to adequately prepare its members for public service.
