Showunmi Names Hayatu-Deen as Top Opposition Candidate

Segun Showunmi, the former spokesperson for ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has identified Mohammed Hayatu-Deen as the strongest opposition candidate for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 elections, representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC). During an interview on Thursday, Showunmi assessed the leading opposition figures and highlighted Hayatu-Deen's credentials, noting his experience as a technocrat and his background in the private sector, which he believes is essential for addressing Nigeria's economic challenges.

Showunmi argued that Nigeria requires leaders capable of responding to worsening economic conditions and unemployment. He acknowledged Atiku Abubakar's contributions to Nigeria's democratic journey since 1999 but suggested that the nation might need a different leadership style to tackle current realities.

Showunmi also mentioned the political momentum of Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, stressing the importance of building broader national coalitions for success in the presidential bid.
