INEC to Announce 2027 Election Candidates on August 29

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to release the names of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections on Saturday, August 29, 2026. This publication is part of INEC's preparations for the elections scheduled for February 6, 2027, allowing political parties, candidates, and the public to verify submitted details.

Political parties contesting the presidential and National Assembly elections are also expected to submit their final candidate lists on the same day. This announcement follows the August 22 deadline for candidates wishing to withdraw from the elections, as stipulated under Section 31 of the Electoral Act 2026.

INEC will publish the final list of presidential and National Assembly candidates on September 12, 2026. Earlier, INEC displayed the personal particulars and credentials of presidential candidates, including Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, at its offices nationwide to enhance transparency in the electoral process.
