INEC Releases 18 Candidates for 2027 Presidential Elections

On September 12, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the final list of presidential candidates for the upcoming January 16, 2027 general elections. The list, signed by Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, confirms that 18 political parties are cleared to participate in the presidential race.

Among the prominent candidates are President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who aims to retain his position, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who is making another bid for the presidency, and Peter Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), returning after a strong performance in the 2023 elections. Other candidates include Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje (Action Alliance), Abbas-Bin Aliyu (Action Democratic Party), Yusuf Kabiru (Allied Peoples Party), Omoyele Sowore (African Action Congress), and Oyo State Governor Oluseyi Makinde (Allied People’s Movement), among others.
