Chief Essien Advocates for Experienced Senate Candidates

Chief Essien, the chairman of the Eket Senatorial District Elder Forum, has expressed concerns regarding the potential election of inexperienced candidates to the Senate in 2027. During a courtesy visit by Ekong Sampson, he highlighted that the Senate is no longer a place for newcomers or "homeboys," stressing the importance of experience in legislative roles.

Essien noted that the Nigerian Senate has evolved into a strong institution that significantly influences policy decisions. He warned that sending inexperienced individuals to the Senate poses risks to the constituency and urged stakeholders to support candidates with proven track records.

He applauded proactive steps taken by the delegation to ensure continued effective representation, advocating against a single-term representation model. The remarks were made during a meeting in Eket on a Friday, where he emphasized the need for experienced lawmakers to benefit the district and the nation.
