SERAP Demands INEC Publish Party Funding Records

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disclose political donation limits, campaign-finance monitoring measures, and financial records of registered political parties in preparation for the 2027 general election. In a Freedom of Information request dated August 22 and signed by Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP sought clarification on whether INEC has set limits on contributions to political parties and candidates as per Section 91 of the Electoral Act 2026.
SERAP requested information on the systems and procedures INEC has established for monitoring compliance with political donations and campaign spending limits. The organization emphasized that transparency in party financing is crucial for a fair electoral process, warning against the risks of undisclosed funding that could distort electoral competition.
SERAP also called for the publication of political parties’ financial records and INEC’s reports on party finances submitted to the National Assembly between 2023 and 2025.
