Tinubu Claims Support of 34.5 Governors for 2027 Elections

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), stated that President Bola Tinubu has the backing of 34 and a half out of Nigeria's 36 state governors as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. He indicated that the only governor not aligned with Tinubu is Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Galadima described Abia State Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party as supportive of the President, while he referred to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed as the "half" due to his indecision regarding party affiliation. Galadima revealed that after a late-night meeting, Mohammed opted not to defect to the NDC, citing advice against joining a party with a strong presidential candidate.

The political landscape has shifted, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) expanding its influence to 31 of the 36 state governorships through defections. Some opposition governors, including Charles Soludo of Anambra and Ademola Adeleke of Osun, have publicly endorsed Tinubu's re-election bid.
