Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Credible Elections in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to peaceful, transparent, and credible elections in Nigeria. He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume at the signing of the Peace Accord on issue-based campaigns in Abuja, organized by the National Peace Committee (NPC).

Akume noted that recent improvements in the electoral process have strengthened voter confidence and increased political accountability, assuring citizens that their votes would count. He highlighted that elections conducted between October 2025 and August 15, 2026, demonstrated Nigerians' capacity for mature democratic participation.

Local and international observers described these elections as free, credible, and transparent. Akume stressed that transparency would help reduce post-election disputes and called for support from Nigerians, civil society, and the media to deepen democracy.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar, of the NPC, mentioned that the committee has facilitated 30 peace accords since 2015, promoting issue-based campaigns to foster civility in political discourse.
