Tinubu Commits APC to Peace Accord Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the 2027 Peace Accord during a signing event in Abuja, where he was represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. Tinubu urged all political parties, candidates, and supporters to reject violence, hate speech, misinformation, and the exploitation of ethnic and religious sentiments in the upcoming election campaigns.

He emphasized that political disagreements are legitimate but should not threaten national cohesion. Tinubu called for campaigns focused on ideas and policies that improve the lives of Nigerians, rejecting any form of incitement, including through artificial intelligence and social media.

He cautioned against treating elections as a do-or-die affair, stressing the importance of nation-building. Tinubu commended the National Peace Committee for promoting peaceful elections since 2014 and noted improvements in Nigeria's electoral process, particularly through technology deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
