PDP Declares Independence in 2027 Campaign Strategy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it will not be pressured into forming a presidential campaign council for the 2027 elections simply because other political parties have done so. PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Haruna Mohammed stated that the party will determine its campaign structure based on its own assessment and timing.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) opened the window for campaign activities about three weeks ago, but the PDP has yet to announce a formal campaign council or program. In contrast, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), led by President Bola Tinubu, has already unveiled its campaign council, while the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), with Peter Obi as its candidate, has begun campaign activities.

Mohammed emphasized that the PDP's decisions will not be influenced by external pressures. The party faces uncertainty regarding its direction, especially following Nyesom Wike's support for Tinubu's re-election bid, and questions remain about the future of its presidential candidate, Senator Sandy Ojang Onor.
