25 Killed in Boko Haram Attacks in Adamawa State, Nigeria

On a recent Thursday, reports indicated that at least 25 people were killed in two separate jihadist attacks in northeastern Nigeria's Adamawa State. Local sources attributed the violence to Boko Haram, a jihadist group that has been active in the region since 2009.

The first attack occurred in Madagali, where gunmen on motorcycles opened fire in a market, killing 21 individuals, according to local government officials. In the neighboring Hong area, four others, including three soldiers, were reported dead.

Witness Ezekiel Musa noted that the attacks left the town in fear, prompting security personnel to begin evacuating the area. Adamawa State Governor Adamu Umaru Fintiri condemned the attacks, warning that terrorists would face the full weight of the law.

The ongoing jihadist insurgency has resulted in over 40,000 deaths and displaced two million people in northeastern Nigeria, according to United Nations estimates. Despite military crackdowns, the conflict continues to spread into neighboring countries.
