Flooding in Ado-Ekiti Claims Lives and Causes Damage

Following a heavy downpour lasting nearly two hours on Monday, severe flooding in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, resulted in at least three people being feared dead. The flood submerged several bridges, leading to the collapse of a bridge along Afao Road.

Numerous houses, shops, and churches were flooded, with significant damage reported to residential and business buildings, fences, and electricity poles. An elderly woman, another woman, and an Okada rider were reportedly swept into a canal by the flood, with their bodies yet to be recovered as of Tuesday.

Additionally, four other individuals who were swept away were later rescued. In the Olorunda area, two people were also swept away, where a bridge was nearing collapse.

The Afao bridge caved in during the flooding. SP Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, stated he would respond later when contacted for comments.
