ICPC Delays Arraignment of El-Rufai After 30 Days

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has failed to arraign former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai 30 days after his detention. El-Rufai was initially held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of financial impropriety.

Following his detention, he was transferred to the ICPC without clear legal authority, leading to claims of unlawful detention. His legal team has filed motions challenging the extension of his remand order, arguing violations of his constitutional rights.

The ICPC's spokesman, John Odei, stated that the commission is adhering to court mandates regarding El-Rufai's detention. A magistrate court is expected to rule on El-Rufai's motion on March 31, 2026, as his legal team seeks to overturn the remand order issued on February 19, 2026.

The ICPC has indicated that multiple suits have been filed against the commission, complicating the arraignment process.
