Five Police Officers Remanded Over Musician's Death

Five police officers, including ASP Usman Nuhu, ASP Onoloko Dauroupamo, ASP Okoh Kelechi, Inspector Goodluck Kingslei, and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu, have been remanded in custody regarding the death of musician Oghenemin Ogidi, which occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State. The officers were arraigned in court under suit number THC ASB CR M 66C 2026, with Justice Marshal Onom Umukoro presiding.

The case has been adjourned to June 15, 2026, for further hearings. Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu described the court's actions as a positive step toward justice.

Concerns were raised about the court's failure to properly inform the family of the deceased, Emuobor Alex, regarding the proceedings. The incident that led to Ogidi's death involved the alleged interception of a delivery package containing firearms and ammunition, which later sparked public outrage after a viral video emerged online.
