8 Die As Flood Wreaks Havoc In Ebonyi Community

A devastating flood in the Enohia Itim community in Ebonyi State has claimed the lives of eight people and destroyed 800 acres of farmland, particularly a plantain plantation. The Chairman of Afikpo LGA, Hon Timothy Nwachi, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and promised measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Councilor Francis Abani Okpani confirmed the loss of eight lives, with three bodies recovered and five still missing, including three children. The incident occurred on August 1, 2025, following warnings from the Federal Ministry of Environment about potential flooding in the area.

Okpani emphasized the need for climate change adaptation strategies and effective drainage systems to mitigate future disasters. The local government has pledged support and collaboration with relevant agencies to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected.
