Flood Claims Eight Lives In Ebonyi

Eight lives were tragically lost in Ebonyi State due to heavy flooding caused by a severe rainfall on August 1, 2025. The disaster affected 800 people and destroyed farmlands in Enohia Itim, Afikpo Local Government Area.

Three bodies have been recovered, while five individuals remain missing. The Councillor representing Itim Ward, Hon Francis Abani Okpani, confirmed the casualties and expressed condolences to the families affected.

The Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Nwachi Timothy, pledged government support and collaboration with relevant agencies to provide timely relief to those affected. The incident highlights the need for climate change projections and flood risk management plans in the region, as well as effective drainage systems to prevent future disasters.
