Eight Dead, 17 Injured in Katsina Road Accident

On Sunday, a fatal road accident occurred at approximately 1:32 PM along the Funtua-Katsina Highway in the Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to 17 others. The accident involved a commercial Toyota Hiace with registration number 14B 92 TR and a Bajaj tricycle that did not have a registration number.

A total of 25 people were involved in the incident, which included 16 adult males, four adult females, two male children, and three female children. Among the deceased were two adult males, two adult females, three female children, and one male child.

The injured victims suffered various degrees of injuries, including fractures and deep lacerations, and were immediately taken to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for medical attention. Shamsudeen Babajo, a public education officer with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), stated that preliminary investigations identified wrong overtaking as a likely cause of the tragic incident.

He urged motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives on the highways.
