176 Abducted Woro Community Victims Regain Freedom

On Wednesday, the 176 women and children abducted by suspected terrorists from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State regained their freedom after spending six months in captivity. The attack on Woro occurred on February 3, 2026, resulting in the deaths of between 162 and 170 people, with estimates suggesting the total toll may reach as high as 200.

The victims were released following efforts by security operatives, as confirmed by Mr. Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and also the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area. He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and security forces for the release.

The victims are currently at Wawa Cantonment in Niger State, awaiting transportation back to Kwara State. Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed, a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, also confirmed the release and thanked President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their roles.

The Kwara State Government issued a statement expressing gratitude to all involved in the release.
