Abia State University Lecturer Suspended for Extortion

Kingsley Izuogu, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at Abia State University (ABSU), was suspended by the university management due to allegations of extortion and certificate forgery. It is claimed that Izuogu extorted money from students in exchange for passing grades and harassed them regarding their academic credentials.

He has repeatedly denied these allegations, asserting his innocence. The suspension occurred while a separate investigation panel appointed by the Abia State government is examining corruption within the institution, although the panel has yet to submit its findings.

The suspension has elicited mixed reactions among students and parents; some have praised the university management for taking action, while others believe the management is awaiting the investigation's outcome before making further decisions. Chijiok Nwogu, the public relations officer for Abia State University, confirmed the suspension in a statement to the Daily Post.
