ABSU Researchers Innovate Treatments for Major Health Issues

Researchers at Abia State University (ABSU) have made significant strides in developing treatments for prostate cancer, wounds, and diarrhea, as disclosed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ndukw Okeudo during a pre-convocation press conference on March 10.

The university identified bioactive compounds from medicinal plants for these treatments, marking a breakthrough in medical research. ABSU is also exploring the production of fruit wine and machinery to convert agricultural biomass into solid fuel briquettes, promoting circular economy practices in Nigeria.

The university will confer degrees to 10,255 students during a triple convocation ceremony scheduled for March 27, 2026, honoring distinguished Nigerians including Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and Dr. Stella Okoli.

Additionally, Prof. Okeudo announced the establishment of a new faculty of computer and cyber sciences, which includes five departments, and the university's full accreditation for eight programs.

The convocation will feature a lecture by Prof. Barth Nnaji, a former minister and CEO of Geometric Power.
