NANS Condemns Mob Killing of UniJos Student Ibrahim Mbaye

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) condemned the alleged mob killing of Ibrahim Mbaye, a student at the University of Jos, who was reportedly beaten to death over accusations of stealing an iPhone. In a statement issued on Monday, NANS President Akinteye Babatunde described the incident as "heartbreaking," asserting that no allegation justifies mob violence or extrajudicial punishment.

Babatunde stated that Mbaye was "brutally assaulted by a group of individuals, humiliated, and locked inside a room," and noted that the allegedly stolen phone was never recovered from him. He expressed sorrow over the loss of a promising young student and welcomed reports of the arrest of some suspects connected to the incident.

Babatunde urged relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, emphasizing that justice must be seen to be done to deter future acts of violence. The Plateau State Police Command has arrested three suspects in relation to the mob killing.
