ADC Accuses Wike of Influencing INEC Officials

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, of attempting to influence officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through alleged land allocations in Abuja. The ADC's claims stem from a report indicating that 29 INEC officials received land allocations, which the party argues could compromise the integrity of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The ADC chieftain emphasized that such actions could be seen as criminal inducement under Nigeria's anti-corruption laws, specifically referencing the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Act, which prohibits public officials from receiving gifts or inducements in the performance of their duties. Wike has responded to these allegations, which have raised serious questions about the handling of electoral processes by INEC.

The ADC has called for investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ICPC into these claims.
