Adeleke Announces Inquiry into Osun Election Killings

Osun State Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke announced the establishment of an Independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate the killings and violence associated with the state's election period. The commission is set to be formed on Monday, immediately following Saturday's governorship election.

During a press conference on Friday, Adeleke conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives due to election-related violence, stating, “Every life lost is an Osun life.” He asserted that politics should never result in loss of life, regardless of political affiliation. The commission will determine the circumstances surrounding the reported killings and recommend actions to ensure accountability for those responsible, irrespective of their political influence.

Additionally, Adeleke indicated that the government would implement a framework to compensate the families of victims. He emphasized the importance of unity and justice for the deceased, stating, “The election will come and go, but we will remain one people.”.
