Adeleke Announces Inquiry into Election Violence in Osun

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State announced on Friday that an independent commission of inquiry would be established immediately after the governorship election scheduled for Saturday. This commission aims to investigate reported killings and violence linked to the electoral process.

Adeleke, whose speech was delivered by the state Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, expressed condolences to the families of victims and stressed that political differences should not lead to loss of life. The commission is set to be constituted on Monday, following the election, to examine the circumstances surrounding the violence and recommend measures to ensure accountability, regardless of political affiliations.

Adeleke also pledged to support families affected by the violence and called for unity among residents. The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in Osun State, with allegations of intimidation and violence reported by political parties, including the Accord Party, which claimed that at least 29 people had been killed in connection with the election.
