AECAF Supports New WEC Leadership for Nigeria's Energy Role

The Association of Energy Correspondents (AECAF) expressed support for the new leadership of the World Energy Council (WEC), highlighting the significance of Nigeria's re-entry into the global body. In a statement issued on August 27, AECAF congratulated Abdulrazaq Isa, OFR, on his appointment as Chairman of WEC Nigeria and Bala Wunti as Chief Executive Officer.

The association noted the board's expertise in energy, regulation, finance, and academia, which is crucial as countries face energy security and sustainability challenges. AECAF framed Nigeria's WEC membership as a vital opportunity for investment and partnerships in energy policy.

It emphasized Isa's experience in refining and industrial development and Wunti's extensive background in strategy and policy development as assets for Nigeria's energy goals. AECAF urged the new board to advocate for a balanced energy transition that includes oil, gas, and renewables while ensuring energy access and affordability remain priorities.

The association also commended President Bola Ahmed for facilitating Nigeria's return to the WEC.
