Adefunke Adeyemi Becomes AdeSewa to Mark AFCAC Milestone

Adefunke Adeyemi, the Secretary-General of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), has adopted the name AdeSewa Adeyemi to commemorate her four-year tenure at AFCAC. In her personal statement, she described the new name as a reflection of her evolving identity shaped by her experiences.

Adeyemi assumed office in September 2022 and was reappointed for another three-year term. Under her leadership, AFCAC has focused on aviation safety, security, connectivity, and environmental sustainability, while promoting the implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) across the African Union's 55 member states.

AdeSewa has over 25 years of experience in aviation, law, trade, and international development, previously holding senior positions at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Her advocacy efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic supported approximately $3 billion in financial relief for African aviation.

Additionally, she is involved in various initiatives aimed at empowering women and promoting African stories.
