PRP Warns Against Establishing State Police in Nigeria

The People's Redemption Party (PRP) issued a caution against the creation of state police in Nigeria, despite widespread support for the initiative. In a statement released on Thursday, the party's national chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, expressed deep concern regarding the plans of President Bola Tinubu's administration to procure state police through constitutional amendments.

He highlighted the unprecedented low level of credibility and competence within the current administration, suggesting that any attempt to establish state police would likely exacerbate security issues rather than resolve them. Baba-Ahmed criticized the administration for its lack of moral authority and trustworthiness, arguing that a major review of Nigeria's security structure is necessary before any significant changes can be made.

He advised that the upcoming elections should reflect the citizens' views on the importance of restructuring the police system, urging caution in the current administration's approach to citizen security.
